I just watched Enter the Dragon.
Enter the Dragon is the Kung Fu classic starring the late great Bruce Lee. I gotta say it's weird watching a straight Kung Fu movie. It's a genre that isn't really around anymore, but has been parodied and referenced so many times that I kept expecting a punchline in every scene. Seeing Bruce Lee do his thing with all his monkey screams and crazy murder faces without any sense of irony is kind of surreal. It's like if you only grew up watching the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes without realizing all the bits are based on existing horror films then watching the originals.
All that being said Enter the Dragon is a solid film with some great action, killer fights, and memorable characters. There are some dated elements like the outfits, the hair and some silly looking PoV camera shots, but I think that's part of its charm. Though I can go the rest of my movie going life without seeing another confrontation in a room full of mirrors. I give it 10 out of 12 bad 70s turtlenecks.
Stray Thoughts:
- I think this movie is the basis for every fighting game ever.
- 70s hair is the best hair
